Oil Filters

What do they do?

Engine Oil filters remove particles and contaminants from engine oil by capturing the debris. This helps to ensure that the engine components remain well-lubricated and reduces friction caused by any contaminants.

Why replace them?

Engine oil gets contaminated over time through regular use by carbon build-up, moisture, blow-by gases, and microscopic metallic grit. The contaminants accumulate in the oil filter over time, which leads to a reduction in efficiency and a restriction of oil flow.

When to replace?

Oil filters, along with your engine oil, should be replaced according to the manufacturer's required maintenance schedule. For a Subaru, this is typically 10,000 km or every 6 months. Consult with your Service Advisor at Barrie Subaru to determine your Subaru's recommended maintenance schedule.
