What they do?
A Serpentine belt is a long belt inside of the engine compartment that keeps your engine, and its supporting systems and accessories running - including the alternator, power steering pump, and air conditioning.
Why Replace them?
Serpentine belts are designed to last for quite a while, thanks to improvements in rubber compounds and technology. Serpentine belts do however degrade over time, and should be replaced if there are noticeable cracks, squeaks, or other signs of degradation. Since a serpentine belt powers so many of the additional systems in the vehicle, it is important to replace them proactively to avoid a costlier repair should it break.
When to replace?
Serpentine Belts should be replaced when worn, and according to Subaru's recommended maintenance schedule. Consult with your Service Advisor at Barrie Subaru to get more information on your vehicle's maintenance schedule.
